SMSC manual

THE ACCREDITED SELF-EVALUATION MANUAL FOR SPIRITUAL, MORAL, SOCIAL & CULTURAL EDUCATION (SMSC)

English schools are required by law to promote the Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development of schools and of society. SMSC is key aspect in OFSTED, the English Education Inspectorate regime. Although there are in existence a number of self-evaluation tools to support schools in this enterprise, none offer formal accreditation and none provide customised advice as to how schools might progress to another stage of development.

Working with the School Development Support Agency based in Leicester in the UK, the foundation aims to develop an interactive electronic tool which both enhances the school's understanding of this complex and difficult area, and offers a number of potential strategies for school improvement. The on-line manual will be free of charge but schools seeking formal accreditation from the SDSA will be required to pay a small fee covering personnel and adminsitiitrreve costs. Consultancy support in all and any of the four areas is also available on request.
